Check a watch
Every luxury pre-owned watch should be checked against the database prior to each transaction to ensure the best protection against stolen and fake goods. This includes watches sold with box and papers, and watches already checked against our database by a previous owner.
All unique numbers on a watch should be submitted to ensure an accurate result. Each number should be entered into a separate Serial Identifier field.
Enter the number only with no prefixes, i.e. exclude words ‘No.’, ‘Case’, ‘Movement’, etc.
Edition numbers should entered into the Edition fields, not the serial identifier field.
Patek Philippe: both case and movement number must be provided for a Certificate to be issued.
Read our Guidelines for further steps to protect yourself when buying a pre-owned watch.
Checks cost £10 +VAT where applicable or 1 search credit (buy a credit bundle here).
To check antique/pocket watches or jewellery, use the form on our Art Loss Register site here.
